Art Buddies UI
During my internship at The Makery, I was given the opportuity to recreate the home page UI for a great organization call Art Buddies. I was given complete freedom and lead in design even to the point where I was allowed to redesign their logo, change the color scheme, and be as creative and experimental as I would like.
Before starting the project, I selected a few words to keep me in direction and to accomplish in both design and usability.
Fun, Playful, Minimal, Professional
After this, my first step was to sketch a general layout for the home page. After that procress, my brought my ideas to Figma where I made many, many rough drafts.
Sketch
My first sketch. This is the general layout I orgianially created. You will notice throughout my design process I learned a lot about fundamentals of spacing, sizing, etc.
Wireframe & Logo
I created this wireframe using Figma. I learned to keep everything consistent with text aligns. On this step I established a color scheme with the logo. The logo, “ab”, is short for “Art Buddies”. My goal with the logo was to be modern, simple, & fun.
Adding Images
I added photos that would bring color to the page. They are cute & the action in the images are realted to the action I want the users to do. For example, to get the user to want to “provide”, I included a image of a child using paint supplies.
Exploring with Figures
To add simple decorated elements throughout the page, I explored taking the shapes and colors from the logo and forming them into new figures.
Building Blocks
I decided to make the decorated elements into building blocks! A classic symbol of childish fun, play, creativity, & learning! I also used this idea to create a data display for mentor and student experience.
Final Layout
Here is the final layout. The buttons are round, I scaled down some figures and sections, made more consistent adjustments, and added color to the footer.
